Bill was a great guy and could tell some great stories about his time in the military, I know he will be missed by a lot of people, I know I will miss him. Love you Anne

Bill has lived beside me nearly my entire life.  I thought of him and Annie Lee as surrogate grandparents as my own lived so far away.  No matter how many times I showed up at their house unannounced they were always happy to see me.  Bill, you truly were America's greatest generation and I will miss your fascinating stories.  I'll always remember how you embraced the annoying little girl next door  (me) and treated her like she was the most special girl in the world.  I'll never forget your kindness and all the fun adventures we use to have... even dabbling in song writing.  You once prevented our house from being burglarized.   Thank you for being a great neighbor, surrogate grandfather, and most especially a wonderful friend!

So sorry for loss. Bill was a great man and I've known him my whole life. I consider him family even though we're not blood related. The stories he told were amazing and he was a brave man. Heaven gained a great angel and we lost a great man.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Annie Lee and the rest of the family. I grew up as Bill's next door neighbor and what a terrific man he was. One of the greatest experiences I had was listening to him tell me his experience of the D-Day invasion. He also showed me his Purple Heart and told me of Eisenhower pinning it on him in the hospital. And then to top it off, he showed me the .45 he used in the war. Such a significant event in the history of the world and to have a next door neighbor that was part of that was indeed an honor. We owe so much to our 'greatest generation'. Thank you Bill for fighting for the freedoms we all enjoy today. Then he came home, married a beautiful lady, made a beautiful family and helped build the US into the greatest country ever. There's a reason we call them the greatest generation. Thank you Bill for all you've done for our country.

It can be so hard to face the first year without your loved one, but the love of family and friends can carry you through.
