Mr. W.J. (Bo) Edward Roberts, age 96 of Landis, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Atrium Health – Cabarrus surrounded by members of his loving family. Born February 26, 1925 in Landis, he was the son of the late William R. and Gladys Sechler Roberts. In addition to his parents, his loving wife, Margaret Beaver Roberts; his sisters, Betty Coan and Katheryn Gray; his sons in-law, David Martin and Tommy Stubbs and daughter in-law, Mary Roberts all preceded him in death. W.J. was a 1942 graduate of Landis High School where he played sports and was very well known. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret, in April 15, 1946 and together they raised three children.
W.J. honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II where he served three years as a weatherman in the 18th Weather Squadron of the 8th Air Force in England, France and Germany. He helped to prepare maps and weather information to Bombers on their missions to Germany. After his service, he attended Catawba College where he studied architecture and became a registered architect in 1968 and a member of the American Institute of Architects that same year. He retired at age 75 as member emeritus of the American Institute of Architects spending the latter years of his career with Robert Stone Architects in Salisbury.
W.J. loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed trips to Blowing Rock and time spent at the lake. Through the years, he was active at Trinity Lutheran Church where he loved serving others and giving of his time teaching Sunday school, serving on church council and many other committees.
Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Glenda Martin, Suzanne Stubbs and Bill Roberts. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for W.J. will be on Thursday, April 15th from 12:00 – 2:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Landis. Funeral service will follow at 2:00pm officiated by Rev. Dr. Jarrod Lanning and Dr. Bobby Gupta. Burial with Full Military Honors will take place immediately after at West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.
