Cilton Sarpy was born to Monick Metoyer and William Sarpy on April 2, 1926 in Derry, Louisiana. He was the youngest of four children. His older brothers were Milton and Simon along with his sister Louise. They are all greeting him in heaven.
Cilton grew up fast as his father passed away when he was 12 years old. He was a sawmill worker until he enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served for 2 years. His tour of duty began in Virginia took him to Germany then he was honorably discharged in Arkansas. Upon his return home to Alexandria Louisiana, he enjoyed being back home with his friends and family, especially his cousin Yaki. Cilton and Yaki loved to dance and they won many dance contests. Cilton was our true Dancing with the Stars champ! In 1958, Cilton and his mother moved to California. They lived in the rear house of Amanda and Tony Llorens.
In California is where he met the love of his life Alvina Jane Metoyer at a party thrown by Elmo Metoyer. Cilton and Janie were married in 1958 these two lovebirds were blessed with two daughters Sharon Ann and Agnes Monique. Cilton and Janie lived with their daughters in Los Angeles for the majority of their lives. Cilton was a hard working man who provided for his family. He regularly took his family out to dinner on Sundays as an outing. Cilton loved his music, loved to shoot pool and enjoyed life - having a little “taste” meaning a high ball or whiskey on ice. Many weekends were filled with love and laughter, loud music listening to Motown and the blues mostly BB King. Cilton enjoyed going to Vegas with his brother Milton. He also loved spending weekends with his best friends ‘Mantee’ and ‘Brud n law’ Tony. We all remember those weekends Barbequing and listening to Cilton and “brud n law” Tony banter back and forth about those Dodgers and world politics!
As Cilton’s health began to decline, his daughters and son in-laws virtually kidnapped him and their mother to live with them in Chino California. This move allowed his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to see him regularly. Cilton loved his family greatly! This love prolonged his life for at least 5 more years. He was cared for primarily by his loving wife, his daughters and his “favorite” Julie.
Cilton taught his daughters two important lessons: 1: enjoy your life, which he did. And the 2nd is that everyone has something positive to offer. He never gossiped or had a bad word to say about anyone.
Cilton grew ill over the last few months of his life he was so strong and fought till the end of his life, which gave the family an opportunity to say their goodbyes. Cilton will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Jesus called him from his pain to join him in heaven.
