He loved sharing his experiences and was proud to have participated last year at the Veterans “We Remember” event with his grandson, Anthony at Don Lugo High School in Chino. Howard was a VERY hard working man. He worked two jobs for eight years to help support his growing family. First as an Engineer for General Dynamics, Pomona Division for 36 years and Value Fair in Chino for eight years in the Automotive and Hardware Departments; as well as being their store Santa Claus every year! There wasn’t anything that Dad couldn’t fix or tell you how to build. His Engineering mind was always planning the next project and helping family, friends and neighbors throughout his life. He loved to travel and enjoyed big family parties for any reason! Howard was a 54-year member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Chino, where he was their first lunchtime supervisor in the 1960s, as well as usher, a CCD teacher and later one of the first Eucharistic ministers in the Church. He volunteered for over 10 years with over 5,000 hours of service at Loma Linda Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Chino Chapter of the VFW. He was a Third Degree of the Knights of Columbus from St. Margaret’s Mary and later at St. Paul the Apostle Church. Howard absolutely loved his wife, children and their spouses and adored his grandchildren. He was a strong man of his Catholic faith and a VERY proud Irishman. He was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Friend. To quote his oldest granddaughter, Laura, “He never knew a stranger, just a friend he had not yet met.” He is remembered by all for his always ready, great, big smile and booming laugh. We love you Pops! Until we see you again! Funeral service is planned for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at St. Margaret Mary Church in Chino. Private interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Pomona.
