José Caetano Medeiros passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Santa Barbara, São Miguel, Azores, to Joao Caetano Medeiros and Angelina de Lourdes Pereira, he built a life defined by faith, service, and family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Margaret; his son, Nuno, daughter in-law Caroline and his cherished grandchildren, Diego and Claudia. He is also survived by his sisters Conceicao and Estrela.
Joe immigrated to the United States in 1980 and went on to co-found the Euro Cafe in 2004 and Chourico Medeiros in 2006, both lasting tributes to his work ethic and vision. For 30 years beginning in 1984, he helped lead the Senhor Santo Cristo Festival, preserving a cornerstone tradition for Portuguese immigrants in Southern California. A Catholic priest for 15 years, he carried his faith with him even after leaving the priesthood to marry and start a family. He led by example, never judging, living simply, and dedicating his life to serving others.
