He is survived by his sons, Jonathan and Michael; his three brothers, Bill, George, and Karl; his nephews and nieces, Karina, Christian, Katharynne, Rachell, and Alexander; and his ex-wife and friend, Deirdre.
Kurt grew up in Lakewood, California, and attended Lakewood High School. At Lakewood High, he excelled in science and mathematics and served as Executive Commander in the school's Naval ROTC. In 1971, he was named Outstanding Cadet of the Year at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, an honor recognizing cadets from schools across California. He also received the Kiwanis Club's Outstanding Senior of the Year Award, which recognized not only his academic achievement but also his involvement in the community, clubs, church, and social causes.
Kurt earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1975 before pursuing a Masters in Computer Science at UCLA. While attending UCLA he joined the Men's Glee Club and travelled with them on a tour of Hawaii where he started his love of the islands.
Kurt spent his time with his family camping across the USA on yearly vacations as a boy. Later, he enjoyed skiing, which he learned while attending Utah. His further joy was sailing his catamaran in Newport Harbor or his ski boat at Lake Mead for Long weekends. He would eventually move to Liberty Lake in Spokane, Washington where he raised his young family while enjoying the outdoors and sailing across the lake.
Kurt spent two decades in the tech industry helping to design early personal computers and computer networks. He later chose a new path in education, returning to California to teach mathematics in the Norwalk-La Mirada and Corona Norco School Districts.
He will be remembered for his remarkable intellect, wealth of knowledge, and boundless generosity.
