Larry Goebel went home to be with the Lord yesterday in the afternoon. Glorious that he is heaven with Jesus, but sad for us who have to stay here longer without Larry. He is survived by his brothers, Dan, John, Mike, Jerry, Leo (Lonnie) and me ; Steve. Larry suffered from congestive heart failure and a number of other ailments that made him so tired, his body just finally gave up. We are all thankful that his discomfort was not long , and he went home early, at 65. Larry had spent his last few years with his brothers John and Mike, working the family business, Sprinkler repair, at Johns house in Chino. Larry was a gentle soul , who lived a simple life and didn't ask for much. He worked in his early years for K-Mart Distribution, later Smith trucking and finally Sprinkler repair, from where he retired just a very short time ago. Early in his life Larry was very active and loved the church he always considered home, and his Pastor, Chuck Smith at Calvary Costa Mesa. When I was 13 , he took me to a sunrise service in a stadium- I think it was Orange Coast College. I responded to the alter call, but fully didn't grasp it until a few years later- but I love the Lord - and in no small part due to Larry's witness to me and open discussions with me about the Lord and His word. I and my whole family are forever grateful for his witness and his being willing and faithful to lead us to Christ. We are confident that even now he is able to hear the best sentence any one can pray for : " Well done good and faithful servant... enter into Glory". Larry loved cool cars and he had a lot of very cool muscle cars in his day, a couple classic mustangs and a couple 2 or 3 Camaro's and more. Even a Bonneville with white leatherette seats. He used to let me drive when I was way to young to drive them- ( but not the Hurst Olds 455- that was too much). He was a fun big brother to me and my sister , Barbara. He even bought me a Schwinn Stingray- incredibly cool in 1973- just because. Larry was the youngest , ( by about a minute and a half ) of triplets born on St. Patrick's Day in 1953. Mike and Jerry are the other two brothers of that trio. Amazingly, those 3 are each unique and very different from one another, and great guys all, of course. Just last week Larry was visited by family and dear friends from Church and his new Pastor, and he was so happy to have the chance to talk with them all. When I spoke with him- he talked of the Wedding feast and how glad he was to be so close to that glorious day. So we take great comfort in his final days, which tell of his confidence in being with the Lord. We appreciate your prayers for peace, Blessings to you all- Thank you.
