I had the privilege of knowing her for over 30 years after first meeting her through my mother. What began as simply doing her hair grew into a friendship. The time she spent sitting in my chair became so much more than an appointment. That chair held countless conversations between us. Moments of sadness, laughter, stories about life and lessons I will carry with me forever. She shared her wisdom so freely and somewhere along the way, she became not only a dear friend but also a mentor. Even the little things, like how much she loved my dogs, became part of the memories I will always hold close. One of the greatest gifts she gave me was her support during one of the most difficult seasons of my life. As I walked through my mother’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease, she gave me strength when I needed it. When my mother passed, she was there once again, serving at her funeral service. Her presence during such a heartbreaking moment meant more to me than I could ever fully put into words. It was a reflection of the kind of woman she was; faithful, compassionate, giving and present when it mattered most. I will forever be grateful that my mother brought her into my life. What a blessing it was to know her, to care for her and ultimately to call her my friend. She will be deeply missed, but the impact she made on my life is something I will carry with me always.

Marthalena was such a meaningful part of my grandma’s life. Their friendship carried so many years, memories, love and faith. Growing up, my grandma always took me to church with her and that’s how I came to know Marthalena. She was one of those familiar and special people who was simply part of that world I shared with my grandma. At one point, they were both so involved in the church together and I can only imagine all of the beautiful memories and moments they shared throughout their friendship. There’s something so bittersweet about knowing that these two best friends are now reunited in Heaven. I’d like to think my grandma was there to welcome her best friend home. May they both be at peace, reunited once again, with so much to catch up on. I will also forever be grateful to Marthalena for something that will always hold such a special place in my heart. During my grandma’s funeral Mass, Marthalena was the one who convinced me to altar serve on behalf of my grandma. I didn’t know if I had the strength to do it but she reminded me that it was something my grandma would have wanted from me. Somehow, she gave me the courage to do something for my grandma one last time, even while I was experiencing one of the hardest moments of my life. And when I did find the strength to get up there, Marthalena was right there at the altar with me. Her presence is what kept me going. Having her beside me brought me a comfort I can’t really put into words. Knowing how much she loved my grandma made me feel like I had a little piece of my grandma standing there with me. She helped carry me through one of the hardest moments of my life and I’m not sure she ever realized just how much I needed her that day. I will forever carry that memory with me and forever be grateful to her for it.

To The Pimental Family, 
Please accept my deepest sympathy on the passing of your dear mother and my "Sister", Madam Madalena. 
It is still hard for me to believe that she is no longer with us. I still expect to see her on Wednesday morning Masses, moving around elegantly, preparing the altar for Mass, welcoming everyone or leading in songs.
She lived an exemplary life and I believe that she has already claimed that seat waitng for her with our Lord Jesus Christ, just like I used to tease her.
May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Today was a hard day for me. I did two funerals, and I missed you there with me. I never had to worry about things getting done when you were by my side. I knew I could always count on you.

As I said to many people today, you were a good and faithful servant. If anyone went to Heaven, I know you did.

My dearest Madalena, you have seen the face of God! You were an angel here on earth, a treasure to more people than you even know.  You will be missed every day and seeing your seat empty at church is just heartbreaking. I will always remember the times we spent together praying the rosary or laughing about silly things. Your love and faith in God are an inspiration and I pray for your eternal rest and that your sons, daughters-in-law and all who loved you may be comforted in their grief and loss by happy memories of you.
