If anyone ever cared, really cared for someone else it would have to be Marlon S Tanquilut. He was a warm hearted and well-liked individual, and these wonderful traits came easily to him because he was such a sociable and amiable person, someone who was always making certain that those around him had whatever they needed. Marlon was a talkative person who was tactful at all times but typically said what he meant. He was also had a great sense of humour, a jokester.
Marlon was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. He was the son of Primitivo and Lydia. Marlon was the oldest of eight siblings followed by Rick, Tes, Jun, Beth, Rosemarie, Rosanna and Marilou. Marlon and his siblings had the typical rivalries while growing up, but they cared deeply for one another. Marlon was a peace-maker with an ability to resolve all sorts of family conflicts. In fact, Marlon worked conscientiously to keep those typical family spats at bay.
One thing Marlon will certainly be remembered for is that, when he got up in the mornings, he was ready and raring to go and always very punctual. As a young boy, he dabbled in playing basketball. He was an avid car enthusiast and liked driving. He was meticulous in car detailing the family car. As the eldest child, he took care of all the siblings when the parents went on trips and away from home.
For Marlon, the school routines were never a problem although he generally preferred variety to structure. As soon as he received his driver's license he was enthusiastic about driving and drove some of his siblings to school. He graduated high school from Notre Dame of Manila in 1972.
College can be a challenge but in his case fortuitous. Marlon attended one year of Commerce at the University of Santo Tomas where he first met Yolanda until he switched to mechanical engineering and realized that as his main career interest. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. His favorite courses were machine shop. Although Marlon and Yolanda would go their separate ways at that time, they reconnected while both unknowingly lived in California decades later.
There was one thing that all of Marlon's friends knew and will still remember, and that is that he was a talker and had a keen sense of humour. He could pretty much talk to anybody about anything. Marlon was a dedicated son, brother and father with his regular trips to Vancouver, BC where his parents, sibling and family lived. While he maintained personal standards and his own personal values, Marlon was very accepting of others. With a distinct skill for working things out, Marlon was fairly comfortable playing the role of “host” for just about any occasion. Later in life, he became friends with Yolanda's family and friends especially those friends in the travel industry as their "Kuya Marlon" too.
Marlon was a loving and sensitive person. Through his complicated life, he was generous and cared deeply for all his family and relationships.
Marlon was blessed with two children, Melanie and Joseph. They were also blessed with a grandchild, Eden from Melanie. He loved having children around and enjoyed being grandfather to James, Josh, Jade and Emma from Yolanda.
Taking his work seriously came naturally to Marlon, and he expected the same from those around him. Having been self-employed for 38 years, Marlon was an early riser, attended to every detail and a proactive problem solver leading to his successful business. He was a dedicated and dependable worker which gained him steady and loyal clients. Later in life he learned to enjoy traveling more, his favorite destination was Hawaii.
Marlon was a fantastic conversationalist who could engage just about anyone in a discussion. And whenever he said something, he meant it. Marlon was a down to earth person, outgoing and gregarious. He was without question the type of person who enjoyed experiencing things first hand. He was practical and sensible, but what friends and family will remember him for most is the fact that he was so understanding and kind. Everyone whose life he touched will miss Marlon S Tanquilut.
Marlon passed away on June 8, 2023 at Loma Linda Medical Center. Marlon fought a brave second battle against cancer.
