To my Familia Avalos, Ramirez, and Parra, I am saddened by our loss of your Brother, Cousin, Uncle, Husband, and Father, and I pray that the good Lord grants you peace and strength as you try to continue life without him.
Victor, my eldest male cousin, was a great role model for me growing up.  Being only three years older than me, as a seven- or eight-year-old, his presence was not that of a ten or eleven-year-old.  I always thought he had everything a teen would want to have.  He was a very well-spoken, charming, good-looking, long-haired teen drummer with a great smile who played football in high school in San Jose (which went a long way with me) and already had a girlfriend!  I couldn’t wait to be at that age where all those things would come to me, too! 
When I got to that age, I quickly realized that other than being the offspring of my Tio Victor† and Tia Lupe†, he embraced what he was taught and shown growing up and put in the work for the rest.  I remember looking at him, playing music with our Tios at a party or club and thinking how could he play like that when all I could do was try to walk straight without tripping over myself! 
He didn’t lose any of that as he grew into adulthood.  He took in all his blessings in life, “como la gente,” while not trying to take advantage of them to live in excess.  I felt that he lived his life with a “Slow is smooth and smooth is quick” type of motion and now feel that what he amassed was much more than anyone could ask for.  
Due to the paths God and life led me up, we only saw each other from time to time in our later years, the last being at my Mother’s funeral services in August of 2021.  He never lost that overall welcoming and charming personality, which was sprinkled with his quick-witted humor.
I will miss Victor very much and will keep him alive in my heart.
