Born on June 1, 1950, in Painesville, Ohio, to Edwin Herzog and Irene (Radgowski), Ed’s parents’ journey eventually brought them to California, where he discovered two lifelong passions: cars and surfing. A man of service and dedication, Ed proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army.
For nearly 47 years, Ed shared his life with his devoted wife, Debra Kineman Herzog. Together they built a loving family, raising two daughters, Sarah Bell of Turlock and Melissa Herzog of Santa Cruz. He is also survived by his sons-in-law Stephen Bell and Robert Stimple. His grandchildren are Megan Armenta, Israel Armenta, Christiana Herzog, Kalista Herzog Stimple, and step-grandson Rogan Bell. Ed is also survived by his sisters Jean (Manual) Candia, Irene (Michael) O’Bradovich, and Patricia Trujillo; his brother Terrence Herzog (Susan); his sister-in-law Robin Kineman Hughes; and his brother-in-law Kevin “Douglas” Kineman (Karen).
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, are his sister Mary Herzog; his brothers Theodore Herzog and Walter Herzog; and his brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Trujillo. He leaves behind numerous nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces who will cherish his memory.
Ed was an avid admirer of Western culture, and his dreams of ranch life led him to a deep connection with the land, especially through his time working with horses. Of all the hats he wore in his remarkable life, his work alongside these animals reflected his strength and spirit.
Beyond his family and passions, Ed gave generously of his time and heart to his community. He was a proud and active member of his local American Legion post, where he served his fellow veterans and neighbors with honor. He also worshiped at Cornerstone Community Church in Chowchilla.
Ed’s life was one of resilience, adventure, and service. His legacy lives on through the family he loved, the community he enriched, and the lives he touched along the way. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
The family extends a special thank-you to Senior Helpers, Madera Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and the staff at the Veterans Administration for their compassionate care.
