Ella Lloyd Black, was born in Arkansas on November 29, 1931. She was the fourth child of eleven children to the late Pastor Freddie Lloyd and Annie Bell Lloyd. Ella trnsitioned this life for her heavenly home on July 5, 2024.
Ella accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and became a Christian through baptism in water. She sang in the choir and was active in church. Ella was most recently a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Ella was one of the orignal founding members of her family's singing group the "Lloyd Sisters." She loved singing with her sisters at various churches and events. Ella was thrilled when later other family members joined the group. The name was later changed to the "lloyd Singers."
While Ella was in Arkansa, she married Murlen Hatdley Sr. From that union a wonderful son Murlen Hatdley Jr. was born.
Ella bravely moved from Arkansa to Herlong, California with her young son Murlen after her marriage to Murlen Hatdley Sr. Ella was an inspiration to her family, she lover her family, and her love was genuine and pure. Ella is credited with encouraging much of her family to move to the west coast. She eventually moved from Herlong to Reno, Nevada.
After moving, Ella Lloyd met and married Chatman Black. From this union an amazing daughter Verita was born. Ella nd Chatman worked together to raise both Murlen and Verita. They encouraged Murlen and Verita to value and obtain higher education, work hard, love family, be respectful and most important to love God.
Ella was a Christian and a woman of faith who trusted and believed in God. She loved God and she loved to pray. Her parents were strong, sincere and powerful. Ella was a prayer warrior!
Ella was a fabulous homemaker. She was an extraodinary wife and mother. She loved to cook and decorate her home. Her home was alwasy comfortable and beautiful. She loved to give decorating tips to family and friends. Ella worked outside the home for a short time at various high-end stores.
Ella had a beautiful smile. She loved fashion and clothing and always looked beautiful. Ella was a stylish elegant woman, and she loved her church hats.
Along with her daughter Verita created a boutique dedicated to uplifting and empowering and rejuvenating women. With great passion, they partnered to open VERITAS in 2013.
Ella lived a long happy and blessed life. She leaves to cherish her memory son Murlen Hatdley and his wife Cheryl and her grandchildren Brandon Hatdley and Sklyer Prothro of Reno/Sparks, Nevada great grandson Marcus and Jason Christian, grand daughter Lakenya Christian of Reno/Sparks, her sisters Mae Mitchell, Delores McAlister and Cloteane Lloyd of Reno/Sparks, Brother Jonathan Lloyd of Reno/Sparks and Pastor Eli Lloyd and his wife Keymona of Oakland, California, son in law David Prothro of Reno/Sparks, Nevada, and a host of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
Ella was preceded in death by her parents Pastor Freddie Lloyd Sr. and Annie Bell Lloyd, her husband Chatman Black, daughter Verita Black Prothro, siblings Georgia Mae Lloyd, Eddie Lloyd, Freddie Lloyd Jr., Lillie Bell Knott and Ora Lee Howard.
Services for Ella was held on Monday, July 22 at Walton's Sierra Chapel in Reno, Nevada. Graveside service will be held at Chowchilla District Cemetery on Friday, July 26, 2024 at 10:00 am.
