It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Nell Dixon Thiel, a beloved wife, mother, stepmother, grandmother, and step-grandmother. She peacefully departed this life on July 5, 2024, at the age of 85.
Mary was born on June 6, 1939, in Ada, Oklahoma. She was a dedicated and loving daughter of Bertha Mae Clouse and Clifford Doyle Dixon. Mary began her remarkable career in banking first in 1960 at Bank of America in Chowchilla. She continued her career at Exchange Bank in San Rafeal, then to State Bank in Chowchilla, on to Community First Bank in Atwater as Assistant Manager. Mary then was hired as Branch Manager of Yosemite Bank in Atwater. When Community First and Yosemite Bank merged, Mary became Vice President Manager of both banks. During her career, Mary was a member of the Atwater and Winton Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the executive board for the Meals on Wheels organization. Mary served with distinction. Her commitment, integrity, and leadership as the Vice President Manager of Yosemite First Bank earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary was the heart and soul of her family. She was a devoted mother to Michael Ray Buttrey and Kelly Renee Iacovelli other to Cindi Harvey and Lori Thiel, her wisdom and guidance shaped their lives in immeasurable ways. As a grandmother, she cherished her time with her grandchildren, Jeremy Morgado, Ryder Buttrey, Shannon Morgado, Morgan Vick, Levi Buttrey, step-grandchildren Jayce Harvey and Jolee Harvey. Mary was great-grandmother to Kaden Morgado, Hannah Morgado, Mason Morgado, Shaelynn Cowan, Wyatt Cowan, Dylan Buttrey, Henley Vick and Rylee Vick, creating countless memories filled with joy, laughter, and love. Her legacy of love, dedication, and generosity will forever remain in our hearts.
Mary met and married Donald Thiel, on December 20, 1996. Mary retired from her banking career and moved to Chowchilla. Don and Mary’s adventurous spirit and a passion for traveling prompted them to purchase a RV and begin traveling the US and Canada. They traveled for almost 9 years sharing many adventures and exciting experiences. Their stories of adventures and experiences inspired those around them. They retired from traveling back in Chowchilla. In May of 2023 Don and Mary were honored to be the Grand Marshals of the Chowchilla parade.
Mary will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her generous spirit, and her ability to bring people together. She had a passion for helping people, which she shared with friends and family, enriching their lives with her enthusiasm and joy.
She is proceeded in death by her father, Clouse Dixon, mother, Bertha Dixon, brothers, Edward Dixon, Don Dixon and Paul Dixon, and sister Modean Chastain.
Mary's journey on earth has ended, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
