Russell Frank Bockhop, known affectionately as Russ, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on November 29, 1939, in Glendale, California, Russ spent his final moments surrounded by the love of his family in Mariposa, California. His departure was due to natural causes, marking the end of a life lived with purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
Russ grew up in Glendale, where his early life was shaped by the values of hard work and community involvement. His academic journey led him to Paradise High School, from which he graduated before furthering his education at Chico State, earning a bachelor's degree in business administration. These formative years laid the foundation for a successful career and a lifetime of service to others.
In his professional life, Russ dedicated years of service to the California Department of Forestry (Cal Fire), from which he retired with honors. His commitment to service extended beyond his work, as he was a proud Lifetime Member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He also served as a member and past President of the Chowchilla Lions Club, contributing to various community projects and initiatives. Russ's passion for community involvement was further exemplified by his roles as past President of the Chowchilla Chamber of Commerce, a Chowchilla High School Board Member, and a Mariposa Member of E Clampus Vitus.
Russ was a family man at his core, deeply devoted to his beloved wife Connie Jeanne Bockhop. Together, they raised a family that included their son, Troy Bockhop, daughter-in-law Elisabete Bockhop, and his cherished daughter Lisa and son-in-law Michael Adair. Although he was predeceased by his son Mark Bockhop and grandson Parker Bockhop, his memory lives on through his cherished grandchildren Corey Lathrop, Nickolas Lathrop, Joslin Lathrop, Tyler Bockhop, and Bradley Adair, as well as his great-grandchildren Corey Lathrop Jr. and Indy Lathrop.
Russ was a man of many interests, with a particular passion for NASCAR, which provided him with hours of entertainment and excitement. He found solace and joy in working in his yard, creating a space of beauty and tranquility for his family and friends to enjoy. As a devoted dog lover, his furry companions were never far from his side, providing comfort and companionship throughout his life.
Those who knew Russ will remember him as a loving, friendly, and generous man. His warm presence and boundless generosity touched the lives of many, and his commitment to his community will be remembered as a testament to his character. His laughter, stories, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Russell Frank Bockhop lived a life characterized by love, friendship, and a spirit of giving. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the remarkable man he was and the enduring impact he has made on his family, friends, and community. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
A Graveside Service for Russ will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Chowchilla District Cemetery 23359 Road 14 1/2, Chowchilla, California.
