Adrian Barrera, age 67, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply. A devoted father, grandfather, teacher, and mentor, Adrian lived a life rooted in kindness, discipline, and connection.
Born on June 18, 1957, Adrian dedicated over 30 years of his life to teaching elementary school. He had a gift for reaching children — not just through books and lessons, but with compassion, humor, and unwavering patience. His classroom was a place of respect, discovery, and laughter. Generations of students remember him not only as "Mr. Barrera," but as someone who believed in them before they believed in themselves.
Outside the classroom, Adrian was a passionate martial artist who earned his black belt in karate and taught youth classes at the local community center. For him, karate wasn’t just about discipline and self-defense — it was about building confidence, focus, and community.
But above all else, Adrian cherished time with his family. Whether it was a Sunday barbecue, a movie night with his grandkids, or a quiet evening talking on the porch, he made the people in his life feel valued and loved.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosa Barrera; his daughter, Isabel Tran, and her husband Michael; his son, Daniel Barrera, and his partner Luis; and his grandchildren, Aiden, Lila, and Mateo. He is also remembered by his younger brother, Marco Barrera, and many nieces, nephews, former students, and friends.
Adrian leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, lifelong learning, and unconditional love.
A memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Community Center on Saturday, December 14. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the local school district’s arts and enrichment fund — a cause close to Adrian’s heart.
