Born in 1934 in Los Angeles to immigrant parents, Ruth grew up in a small apartment filled with music, Yiddish expressions, and the comforting smells of home-cooked meals. From an early age, she learned the values that would guide her entire life: resilience, generosity, humor, and an unwavering commitment to family.
Ruth built her life in LA, a place she loved fiercely and never wished to leave. She married the love of her life, Daniel Goldstein, in her early twenties, and together they raised two children, Sarah Goldstein-Levine and Michael Goldstein, whom she adored and supported with endless encouragement and gentle wisdom. Later, she became the proud grandmother of five: Rachel Levine, Daniel Levine, Noah Goldstein, Emma Goldstein, and Leah Goldstein—a role she embraced wholeheartedly.
To her grandchildren, Ruth was a storyteller, a confidante, and a constant source of warmth—always ready with a hug, a piece of advice, or something sweet “just in case you’re hungry.”
A woman of many interests, Ruth was an avid reader and crossword enthusiast, rarely missing the Sunday puzzle. She loved knitting scarves for friends and family, attending the theater, and taking long walks through her neighborhood, where she seemed to know everyone by name. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, famous for brisket, matzo ball soup, and recipes passed down through generations—never written, only remembered.
Ruth was known for her sharp wit, quiet strength, and deep empathy. She listened more than she spoke, but when she spoke, her words mattered. She had a remarkable ability to make people feel seen and valued, whether they were lifelong friends or strangers sitting beside her on a park bench.
Her Jewish faith and traditions were central to her life. She found meaning in Shabbat dinners, holidays spent surrounded by family, and the simple act of lighting candles and taking a moment of gratitude. She believed strongly in kindness, justice, and the importance of showing up for others.
Ruth’s legacy lives on through her children, her grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched with her compassion and grace. She will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and the love she gave so freely.
May her memory be a blessing.
