Born on July 29, 1939, in Muscatine, Iowa to Howard Benton Tumey and Violet Marie Gorsuch, Sharon's childhood was filled with dreams of becoming a Majorette. Sharon received her very own twirling baton as a gift from her parents, Howard and Marie, on her 10th birthday. She cherished it and polished it daily, joining the school marching band by age 13. Sharon was a 1956 graduate of Muscatine High School and a graduate of Marycrest College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She went on to pursue a successful career in the field of social work.
Sharon dedicated her life to helping others. A long-time resident of Davenport, Iowa, Sharon was known for her generosity and devotion. She loved collectibles, especially the cardinal bird, which reminded her of her mother. Gardening and spending time in nature were among her favorite pastimes. Sharon cherished the company of her close friends and family. Some of her close friends were those at Spring Village Apartments in Davenport, where she was a resident for over 10 years. The Tumey family would like to express their gratitude for all who remembered her.
Sharon was a member of the First Presbyterian Church throughout her life. Her involvement in Sunday School and the nursery during her younger years, taught her the importance of charity and helping others. These experiences were among her fondest memories, instilling a sense of pride and fulfillment.
Sharon is survived by her sister Patty Tumey Sorgenfrey; her daughter Elisabeth Lockheart; her son Jeff Lockheart; her daughter Christine Lockheart; and her son-in-law John Bozdech. With special bonds to grandchildren: Callie, Levi, James, Joshua (deceased), Jessica, Nicholas, Joseph, Margaret, Blake, Emma; as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Sharon was preceded in death by her son Scott Lockheart and her daughter Kathryn Bozdech; her father Howard Tumey (Marie Gorsuch); brothers Bill, Tom, Don, Dean; sisters Deanna and Beverly.
Funeral Services will be held at Weerts Funeral Home, located at 3625 Jersey Ridge Rd, Davenport, Iowa, on February 19, 2025, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Following services, all are welcome to visit with the family.
Sharon's legacy of kindness, generosity, and devotion will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate to know her. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of her loved ones and the community she touched.
