

Norma Lee Gloyd, 76, of Stoutsville, Ohio passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Norma was born in Lancaster, Ohio on February 24, 1948 to Elmer and Winifred (Stout) Butterbaugh.
Norma was a 1966 graduate of Amanda Clearcreek High School and briefly attended The Ohio State University with the intention to major in early childhood education. Norma began working for GTE in Circleville with her goofy and beloved cousin, Bill Ankrom. When the love of her life, Jerry, returned home from Vietnam, they were married June 12, 1970. Norma began a lifelong love of sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting and cross stitching and spent many years in the Lancaster Quilt Guild. In March of 1989, Jerry and Norma, were blessed with their daughter Elizabeth Ashley. Norma and Jerry were lifelong travelers with their daughter, often taking long trips through the West, Midwest and California and hundreds of trips to Amish Country to buy of the fabric she could put in one vehicle.
Norma devoted a majority of her life to quilting and delivering the word of Christ through her work with Emmaus. Norma was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster for many years and attended the Tree Church in Lancaster. Norma was passionate about serving the Southern Ohio Emmaus community, where she met so many life long friends that became family. Norma worked at Farmer’s Country Store in Lancaster for over twenty years, a place where she met so many precious friends and thrived in her passion of quilting. Norma loved making quilts for babies and veterans, donating blankets to cancer patients and teaching people how to sew and carry on the tradition.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Jerry, parents Elmer and Winifred Butterbaugh, siblings Carol Butterbaugh and Donnie (Joyce) Butterbaugh, brother-in-law Jim Hartley, sister-in-Christ Pam Cole, Donna Wisenbarger, Linda Addison and many other friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Ashley of Stoutsville, sister Phyllis Hartley, cousins Donna and Dan Dailey, Tina Argo and Lisa Wilson, nieces Jayme (Will) Fountain, Renita (Dave) Tawney, Robin Otto, Elizabeth (Pat) Summers, nephews Ronald (Vanessa) Butterbaugh and Rodney (Gabby) Butterbaugh, brother-in-laws Stanley (Donna) Gloyd and Gale Gloyd, friends that are family in our heart - Linda and Larry Brown, Connie and Bill Walker, Cindy Armstrong, Shirley Jadwin, Ralph and Ann Fausnaugh, Krista Strickler, Linda Guseman and Tammy Aneshansley, many other cousins and friends and so many people from Farmers Country Store she adored so much.
A funeral service will be held at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home at 151 East Main Street, Circleville, Ohio. Friends may call on Thursday, August 1 from 4 -7 P.M and Friday, August 2 from 12 - 2 P.M. The service will be held on Friday, August 2 at 2 P.M. with friend Steven Krumm officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Stoutsville with Norma to be laid with her beloved Jerry.

Ashley wishes to extend her gratitude to the multitude of friends and family that have watched over her and prayed for her over the years, Fairhope Hospice for the incredible skills they provided at home, all of Norma’s physicians, especially Dr. Jeremy Buckley, Farmers Country Store for letting Mom live out her life’s work and especially Clearcreek Twp. E.M.S. for taking such great care of Norma and Jerry allowing them to have the best quality of life possible.
