Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 4, 2022, in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, with Pastor John Musgrave officiating. Burial will follow on site at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Allen was born in New Bern, North Carolina on December 21, 1959 to the late William Glenn Patterson and the late Mattie Louise Smith Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Kathy De Maar.
Allen was a member of Christ Church PCA of Clayton, NC, where he served as a deacon for nearly 20 years. He graduated from East Carolina University. He was employed with GlaxoSmithKline, and enjoyed fishing, mechanics, and helping the people around him.
Allen is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce DeHaan Patterson; four children, Anne Patterson of Anderson, SC, Faith Patterson of Wendell, NC, Jennifer Patterson of Zeeland, MI, and David Patterson of Wendell, NC; two siblings, Doris (Frank) Tillman of Bel Air, MD and William (Esther) Patterson, Jr of New Bern, NC; and one brother-in-law, Larry De Maar of Linden, MI. Allen was uncle to Ben Tillman (Allison), William Patterson III, Grant Patterson (Madison), Lora Postma (Jon), Michael De Maar (Nichole), Ben De Maar (Katelyn); and was great uncle to Lily and Cora Tillman; Aiden, Madelyn, and Nolan De Maar; Micah, Annika, and Maya Postma; and Caleb De Maar.
