Alton "Papa" Eugene Whitley, age 90, of Selma, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 surrounded by his family. "Papa" was born in Johnston County on April 26, 1933 to the late Alton L. and Irene Coats Whitley.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Glover Whitley; sons, David Carroll and his wife, Tammy of Clayton, Christopher Whitley of Raleigh; daughters, Debra Carroll Godwin and her husband, Jimmy of Kenly, Belinda Hicks of Dunn, Sharon Lee of Selma; sister, Rebecca Keen of Selma; sister-in-law; brother, Everette Whitley and his wife, Hilda; 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sons, Ronnie Whitley and Mark Carroll, a daughter, Kathy Johnson and a brother-in-law, Roy Keen.
The family would like to extend a very special "Thank You" to Dr. Maynard and 3HC Home Health and Hospice.
A visitation for "Papa" will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. An interment will occur Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Pinecrest Memorial Park following the services.
