CARY- Bernard Anton Boik, age 95, formerly of Clayton, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Wake Med Cary.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
He was born on January 5, 1926 in Grenville, South Dakota to the late Louis Boik and Theresa Ewalt Boik. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Lidvina, John, Ann, Don, Benny, Theresa, Stanley, and Veronica.
Bernie was a U.S. Army veteran having served as PFC during World War II, where he received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began a long career in the automotive industry. He started as a mechanic and then ended his career in management, spending his time across various GM dealerships. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, dancing, playing cards and spending time with family. He was a jack-of-all-trades; there was nothing he was unable to fix and he truly had, not one, but two green thumbs.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jane Wadas Boik; six children, Sharon (Richard) Neville, Nancy (Ron) Brick, Rande Boik, Reyne Boik, Debbie Shoemaker, Patty (Nigel) Bradley; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brother Jimmy.
