RALEIGH – Betty Jean Betts Petit, age 84, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. She was a native of Harnett County and a daughter of the late Eugene Alan Betts and the late Brookie Honeycutt Betts. She was known as “Grandma Betty” to all of us grandchildren and she was a Grandma of many talents. Her passion was sewing, quilting and making crafts; but her greatest love of all was to babysit the grandchildren at every chance she could get. She truly enjoyed taking the time to show all of her grandchildren how to cook, sew or make crafts and we will cherish those memories forever. And may we not forget how much she loved when family and friends would take the time out of their day to stop by for a visit, even if it was to say a quick hi or watch a little game show with her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mack J. Petit and a son, Tim Harmon. She is survived by four children, David Harmon (Terry) of Raleigh, Rudy Harmon (Shirley) of Holly Springs, Marilyn Finch (Van) of Apex, and Pam Gardner (Tony) of Hampstead; sixteen grandchildren ; fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Betts of Coats; brother Curtis Betts of Coats; and one step-daughter, JoAnn Watkins (Jeff) of Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials may be made to: Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. On line condolences may be made to the family at www.mclaurinatpinecrest.com. Arrangements are with McLaurin Funeral Home.
