Mrs. Betty Carraway Thomas, 80, of Raleigh died Saturday morning, December 12, 2015 at North Hills Senior Living. She was born February 4, 1935 in Greene County, NC, daughter of the late Joe and Lottie W. Carraway. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel LeRoy Thomas and a brother, Joe Carraway.
Mrs. Thomas grew up and graduated from The Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh. She graduated from East Carolina University and retired from the Granville County School System as an elementary school teacher. She had tremendous love and devotion for her family and a strong passion for teaching children. She was an avid gardener and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. in the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel in Clayton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by one son, Gene Huffman and wife Cheryl of Candler, three daughters, Frances Blackwell and husband Gary of Oxford, JoAnn Currie and husband Kim of Clayton, and Kathy Rayfield and husband Art of Charlotte, a sister, Freddie Schrimper and husband Ron of Raleigh, a sister-in-law, Ann Carraway of Lake Panasoffkee, FL, six grandchildren, Brad Currie, Courtney Carr, Doug Currie, Everette Bouchelle, Amy Seay, and Sarah Blackwell, and two great grandchildren, Caleb Rayfield and Jack Carr.
