She was born in Tabor City, North Carolina on June 24, 1937, to the late Gaddie Watts and Lydia Gooden Watts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Mayon Wright, and sister Lizzie May Graham.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy J. Davis (Anthony, Deceased), and Tammy L. Boling (Scott); grandchildren, Heather Roegner (Rob), Jeremy Stollard, Kandace Reed (Johnathan), Elizabeth Belcher (Stephen); great grandchildren Kendall Gillespy (David), Kamdyn Gillespy Pagano (Nathan), Connor Reed, Mallory Belcher, Julian Reed, Raylan Belcher, Maverick Reed. Sisters, Violet Stephens, Carrie Fowler, and Linda Jacobs, of Tabor City. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
After her girls started school, Betty started her jewelry career with S&H Green Stamp Store in Raleigh and her love of “bling” continued with Raleigh Wholesale Jewelers, Land’s Jewelry and D. Thomas Jewelers. After 28 years of jewelry retail, she was asked to be a Customer Service Representative for the City of Raleigh Police Department where she served at Moore Square and continued her love for people and the community. She and her best friend, Ernestine Norris had their own small catering business where many laughs were enjoyed as they created fun memories for those they served through the gift of food.
Unfortunately, the past several years Alzheimer’s has taken the best part of her memories; however, she was always ready to “go somewhere” or help someone. She thought everyday was Sunday so she could go to church. The last few years she spent with her daughters and grandchildren in their homes. Her final months were extremely happy when she participated with the Total Life Center at Garner United Methodist Church through the Resources For Seniors program. She enjoyed crafts, bingo, snacks, singing and said they were all her “cousins”. While she may not have remembered from day-to-day, anyone who met Betty will never forget her.
Betty loved the Lord, her family and everyone she met. Her vibrant smile, pretty gray hair, and gift of giving were her greatest compliments. She never met a stranger! When you think of Betty Wright let your memories bring a smile to your heart. It was her nature to make everyone happy!
