Billy Irven Daughtry, Sr., 79, of Clayton, passed away on January 7, 2018, after a brief illness. Billy was born in Clayton, NC, to Mr. and Mrs. T. N. Daughtry. He was married to his beloved wife, Margaret Cockrell Daughtry for 55 years, and they had one son, Bill. He worked for the Plant Pathology Department of N.C. State University for 40 years. He also served in the National Guard. Billy served as a volunteer fire fighter with the Clayton Fire Department for 30 years, and was elected to a term on the Clayton Town Council. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Bill and wife, Ladonna; grandchildren, Madeline and Spencer; sisters, Doris Watson and husband, William and Ruth Dupree and husband, Alex; brother, Leon Daughtry and wife, Sherry; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Woodall. He cherished his friendship with the “Breakfast Club” friends and enjoyed nights out with his poker buddies. Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 2:00pm, in the McLaurin Funeral Home Chapel, 12830 US 70 Business HWY W, Clayton, NC 27520. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
