Billy Rex Lee, 85, passed away on July 9 in his lifelong hometown of Clayton, NC. Many Clayton residents will remember Mr. Lee as the founder and proprietor of CleanRite Cleaners, which he operated for over thirty years. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Marilyn Blinson Lee; his parents, Aaron and Gladys Lee and siblings, Amelia Speight, Linda Medlin, Bobby Lee and William “Buck” Lee.

He is survived by a daughter, Lydia Lee Peyton and her husband, Bill, of Greenville and a son, David Lee and his wife, Sherry, of Cary; four grandchildren: Will Peyton, Hunter Peyton (wife Allie), Alex Lee, and Rachel Lee; and siblings Mary Ellen Ross (husband Signal), Faye Sasser (husband Terry), Aubrey Gene Lee, and Carolyn Parker (husband Ken).

For many years, Mr. Lee enjoyed the fellowship of a special group of friends who would meet daily for breakfast at McDonald’s.

In his final days, Mr. Lee was compassionately cared for by Transitions Healthcare and the staff of Springbrook Rehabilitation and Nursing in Clayton.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 411 N. Fayetteville St., Clayton, NC 27520 on July 13 at 1pm. The family will receive friends at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US-70 Bus. Hwy. W., Clayton, NC 27520 on July 12 at 6pm and in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. A private internment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Organ Fund at First Baptist Church of Clayton or the charity of one’s choice.
