Charles was born the second oldest of 9 children on January 2, 1942, in Johnston County, NC. He grew up helping his father on the farm in Johnston County and met who would become the love of his life while working in a tobacco field in the summer of 1963 and made this beautiful young lady, Jeanette, his wife in 1965. He worked hard and raised his family in Clayton and lived his entire life in Johnston County.
When Charles became old enough to leave the farm, he worked the majority of his adult life as an industrial sewing machine mechanic and retired from what was then known as Sara Lee Textiles in Clayton, NC and formerly known as Champion Products. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters that were the apples of his eyes. Because of his generous nature, he never turned down anyone, especially his family, that needed a helping hand and found immense joy and fulfillment in helping others.
Charles loved his family with his entire heart and enjoyed spending time with his brothers at the drag strip, and all of his siblings and extended family at family reunions and holiday gatherings. Anyone that knew him would never say that he ever met a stranger. He was always ready to have a conversation with anyone and most likely knew some of the same people of anyone that he talked to.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Tilghman and Vivian Lee; brothers, Thomas Lee, Avery Lee, Alvin Lee, and Bobby Lee.
Charles is survived by his wife, Jeanette Lee, son, Charles Lee Jr. (Tammy); granddaughters, Sanannah Lama (Joey), Victoria Rouse (Brendan); great-grandson, Rowan Charles Rouse; siblings, Tim Lee (Jeanette), John Lee (Judy), Betty Jones (Tommy), and Margaret Jackson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles is remembered for his outgoing personality and conversation which won the hearts of those he met immediately. He loved life and loved others. He was a very hardworking, kind, and considerate man. He gave himself freely to the service of others not wanting anything in return. He had a very long, happy, and successful life and lived his life to the fullest and on his terms right up to the very end. He was surrounded by the love of his family as he slipped peacefully into eternity with his Lord and Saviour.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30pm. The Committal service will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton.
