A service to celebrate Christine's life will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 8, 2024 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC. The interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the funeral home, prior to the service.
Christine was born in Edgecombe County, NC on June 5, 1932 to the late Charles Edward Rose and the late Lilly Mae Wallace Rose. She graduated from West Edgecombe High School in 1950 and married Jesse Alvin Calhoun on August 27, 1950. After living in Rocky Mount, NC for a few years, they made their home in Clayton, NC where they raised three loving children.
She was a member at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Clayton, NC where she faithfully served for over 50 years as a Children's Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, and Membership Care Coordinator. She was also a dedicated employee at Great American Insurance Company for over 28 years until she retired in 1995.
Christine leaves behind her children Darlene Patterson (Jim) of Whitakers, NC, Lynn Burnette of Yorktown, VA, and Robert Calhoun of Archer Lodge, NC; her two sisters Jessie Dean Taylor and Portia Daisy both of Rocky Mount, NC; her grandchildren Jamie Patterson, Tammy Armstrong, Christy Brown, Tracy Clark, Stacy Dunbar, and Justin Calhoun; eleven precious great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Jesse, brothers Robert and Donald Rose, and great-grandchild Connor Armstrong.
The family is very appreciative of the compassionate care provided by Gentiva Hospice in Clayton, NC over the last few weeks.
