He was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina on October 22, 1954 to the late Claude King, Jr. and the late Mary Ellen Talton King. Cullen graduated from Goldsboro High School. He attended Chowan University and Wake Technical Community College receiving Associate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Architectural Design. He worked as a mechanical engineer at Channel Master and TT Electronics. Later in life, he worked at Carolina Comfort Air where he retired.
For many years, Cullen coached his son’s baseball, basketball, and football teams. If he wasn’t coaching a sport, he was somewhere watching it on a ball field, in a stadium or in the comfort of his home. He loved gardening, cooking, being outdoors, bird watching, going to the beach, listening to country music, and enjoying the company of his friends and family.
He is survived by his two sons, Matthew King (Holly) and Adam King (Nikki); five grandchildren, Mally King, Beasley King, Ashley Shabo, Katie Shabo, and Corey King; one brother, Robert “Brent” King and family.
A service to celebrate his life will be held from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Friday, August 26, 2022 in the Magnolia Room of McLaurin Funeral Home 12830 US 70 Business Highway West, Clayton, North Carolina, with special thoughts and remarks being shared at 2:30 pm by Pastor David Sutphin.
