

Collis (Bill) William Dodson Jr. age 74, of Smithfield, North Carolina passed away on April 27. 2026. He was born on September 6th 1951 in Front Royal, Virginia. He grew up in Flint Hill, Virginia, where he spent his childhood days enjoying country life.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Dodson, his sister Jackie Lambert and his brother Stevie Dodson along with his children (Jill Bevins, Thomas Clary, and Tammy Bowles), and his grandchildren Morgan, Raiden, Ila, Lydia, Justin, Andrew, Alaina, Alexis, Brandon and Levi, and his great-grandchildren Blake, Calel, Alhana Jo, Jesse, Henry, and Jackson as well as many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him. He was preceded in death by his father, Collis Dodson Sr. and his mother, Margaret Kuser,
Collis Dodson Jr. proudly served in the Army National Guard. He lived a life marked by dedication to his country, his family, and the outdoors. He found great joy in hunting. Whether in the early morning hours or sharing stories afterward, hunting was more than a hobby—it was a passion that connected him to nature and to those he loved. He will miss his hunting buddies and friends ( Bernie Foster, Bob Drake) and his favorite hunting companion, his brother Stevie. His brother recalls the special relationship they had as he states he was “the best brother ever.”
Bill enjoyed his aeromodel planes and the special relationship he had with his fellow fliers. He was an active card game enthusiast as many will miss him on Friday and Saturday game nights along with the many antics that he pulled due to being a fun loving jokester to all that knew him. He enjoyed watching anything western on television and loved blue grass music.
Bill worked as a mileage Sales Manager for Bridgestone Firestone until his retirement. He was known for his dedication and outstanding customer service skills with each of his contacts.
To know Bill is to know that he had a huge heart. He had personal, thoughtful connections with each of his family and friends. His face lit up as he interacted and joked with others. You couldn’t help but feel loved in his presence. We know that he has been reunited with his family. His love will continue to be felt through his memories and as we speak of him. Please continue to share his stories with others and share this flow of love.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 1, 2026, in the chapel McLaurin Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 10:00am-11:00 am. The interment will follow the services at Pinecrest Memorial Park, Clayton, NC. All are welcome to come join in celebrating his life.
