Born on January 18, 1959, in Wake County, he was a son to the late Leroy Ruffin Atkinson, and to Delia Bloise Atkinson.
David was a graduate of Garner High School. In his early years, he worked as a mechanic for both Greyhound Bus Company and Cat Bus Company. In his later years, David was a maintenance worker with the town of Clayton Wastewater Treatment Plant. David loved his family, golf, fishing, good food, watching tv and YouTube, feeding birds, his cats, and riding motorcycles.
A funeral service will be held for David on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:00pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00pm, just prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jan Parker Atkinson, and his son, Timothy Lee Atkinson.
David is survived by his son, Jeffrey Scott Atkinson; mother, Delia Bloise Atkinson; brothers, Michael and Alan Atkinson; and step-son, Garrett Paterson.
