Mr. Douglas was a kind man. Even in the past few years, when I would see him, he would tell me how much he thought of me. He left messages on my voicemail (some he thought he was leaving for his granddaughter, Rebecca, others for me). I have saved them, as they are priceless reminders of how much he loved people, including “Rebecca.” I would love to forward the messages to her. Blessings to all of Mr. Douglas’ family. May his memory always put a smile on your faces!

When the wife and I bought our first house at Emerald Village Location in 1968 on Rock Quarry Road, I bought my first used car then from Douglas Atwood. Very good times with him !!! God for sure was with him and is with him right now at his new home upon Heaven !!!

Doug was my neighbor for the last 3 years, and I could not ask for a better neighbor! He was always concerned for the well being of my family and seldom had a gripe of his own. My chances to visit with him became more infrequent because of my work, but whenever I had a chance to slow down for a minute I would walk over to his place and sit with him and listen to his stories. We had a lovely opportunity to go to his church one time to worship, and it was evident that everyone there enjoyed him and his friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as we mourn the loss of a solid man. Sincerely, Steve and Stella Prescott

Doug was a bright light in a dark world. As a disciple of Christ and a devoted Gideon, he never hesitated to share God’s Word and lead others to a saving faith in Christ Jesus. I remember a time at a family reunion when Doug very passionately shared his love for Jesus and called on every man there to spend more time with their family and to put Christ first and always! Doug is no longer here, he has risen indeed. Praise God for men like Doug . If you want to see him again, give your life to Christ and you will join him in heaven one day!

to the Atwood family,

Please accept our deepest condolences on the passing of your Father, Grandfather & Uncle - Douglas Atwood.

I was very fortunate to spend some time with Uncle Douglas a couple of years back. He was so kind to drive me around all the places that my mother and father had resided in those early days of their marriage. He shared many kind thoughts and special memories from the past of my father which really meant a lot to me. I was very lucky that Douglas shared those special memories and times from the past. I really got a chance to witness myself the kind of special kind of caring and loving person that Douglas was in his life. I would like to imagine that Douglas and the rest of his family who've departed are watching over us and looking forward to the day we will all be together.

Douglas and Virginia Atwood were two precious people. I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Atwood's passing. Mr. Atwood was a humble, kind, honest man. I remember him saying "be real for Jesus." I believe Mr. Atwood was a man who loved Jesus, his wife Virginia, and his family. I know he will be missed by many. My prayers and love are with you all.
