Reverend Douglas Craven Sanders, age 90 of Clayton, passed away peacefully January 15, 2021, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Hardison and Reverend Luke Long officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
Reverend Sanders was born in Robeson County on April 11, 1930 to the late Legget Sanders and the late Inez Langley Sanders. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from North Carolina State University. He then went into Real Estate and enjoyed several years of working with buyers and sellers with home purchases. All during his career Reverend Sanders was an ordained Minister serving as an evangelist, associate pastor and then became the full-time minister of Wildwood FWB Church of Garner, NC until he retired. He had a passion for the needy shut-ins, and those in nursing and rest homes. It was not unusual to see Reverend Doug and Shirley making regular visits to those often carrying milkshakes, candy, and or fruit to those they were visiting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley Faye Franks Sanders; children; son, Tony Sanders and wife Kelly Sanders; daughter, Cindy O’Neal and husband David O’Neal; grandchildren, Cliff Sanders, Candace Carpenter and husband Chris Carpenter, Davey O’Neal, and Olivia O’Neal and four great grandchildren.
