He was born on January 4, 1974 to Earlene Widner Wood and the late Cecil Edward Wood. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oscar J., and Zelda L. Widner, and several aunts and uncles.

Duane was raised in Bristol, Virginia and enjoyed spending time at the beach, listening to live music, and watching classic movies. He was an avid sports fan who loved Virginia Tech football, the Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Cubs. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1996 and remained in the Blacksburg area for many years. Duane spent time as a bartender at The Rivermill. He became known to many as “D. Wood.” Duane was well loved by everyone who knew him. In 2006, he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, working as a sales representative in the food and beverage industry.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his constant companion and love of his life, Nicole Pulley; uncles Larry (Jackie) Widner, and James Widner, and aunts Elizabeth (Lynn) Ashley and Carol (Tom) Buschman; many cousins; as well as those who were soon to become his in-laws, the Pulley family.
