Elgie Allen Wells, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 30, 2026, at the age of 91. Elgie, a lifelong member of Oakland Presbyterian Church was born on March 28, 1935, near Blackmon's Crossroad to the late Lonnie and Ada Lawhorn Allen, she was the youngest and last surviving of eight children. She moved with her family to the Cleveland Township in 1947, her father becoming a local merchant. After graduating from Cleveland High School in 1953 she married Cleveland resident Rudolph Wells in 1954 and later they had two sons. Her life was dedicated to her family, church, and all things Cleveland community.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Rudolph Wells; sons, David Wells and his wife, Marlo, Don Wells and his wife, Jennifer; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at McLaurin Funeral Home.
