

Helen Frances Williams Creech Wood, of 4131 Little Creek Church Rd in Clayton, passed away Tuesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was just six days shy of her 81st birthday. She was born on July 20, 1934 to the late John Jennings and Sallie Jane Braswell Williams of Clayton. She graduated from Wilson’s Mills High School in 1952, and went onto receive a business degree. She was a retired payroll clerk for the State of North Carolina, and was a longtime member of Powhatan FWB Church in Clayton. She never knew a stranger, and had a heart of gold.
Also preceding her in death were her brother, Norvelle, and her sister, Alice. She is survived by her sons: Edwin R. Creech Jr. of Atlanta, Steven C. Creech of Clayton, and John V. Wood of Willow Spring; her daughter, Frances Crocker of Raleigh; and her granddaughter, Stephanie C. Crocker of Raleigh.
Visitation will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton at 2pm Saturday July 18, and a short memorial service will follow at 4pm, with Pastor Jim Bogle officiating. She will then be laid to rest in McLaurin at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
