Gary Randolph Umberger, age 68, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at home. He was born on September 1, 1956 in Wytheville, Virginia to the late James “Carlin” Umberger and Marlene Umberger. Gary loved to hunt and fish and his dogs and cherished his granddaughters. He also coached baseball and bowling.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 11:00 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:00am. With his love of hunting, we ask that you wear camo in honor of him.
He survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Melinda Umberger; son, Jay Umberger and wife, Lindsay; his cherished granddaughters, “Destinee, Brianna & Graci”; sister, Cathy Lee and husband, James; , and Uncle Dick Williams, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary is also preceded in death by his son, Randy Umberger and a brother, Jimmy Umberger.
The family would like to thank nurses Amelia and Pat from Heartland Hospice and Chaplin Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gary's name may be made to the NC Wildlife resources commission.
