

Funeral services will be held 2:00 Saturday, January 14, 2023 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home with Pastor David Sutphin officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum of Pinecrest Memorial Park in Clayton.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday, January 14, 2023 at the funeral home, prior to the service.
She was born on October 29, 1948 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to the late Jack Armstrong and the late Mae Skaggs Armstrong. She was raised in New Bern, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Mark Kornegay and nephew, Brandon Kornegay.
Ginger worked as a hairdresser as well as a member of the Wella Balsam Color Team, and enjoyed showing her dogs, traveling. She was an accomplished author, having published three books, and member of the Woman’s Club. She won the John Phillip Sousa Award in 1966 and was a national Champion in Baton.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Steve Kornegay; children and their spouses, Jack McCray, Frank Cates, Allen McCray his wife Maggie; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sister, Mary Beth Cummings; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Dale Moore, Marshal Kornegay (Jeanie), Kathy Kornegay, Elaine Kornegay; mother-in-law, Joyce Kornegay; aunts, Lorraine Clark and Carol Skaggs; many nieces and nephews.
