Ila was born in Smithfield to Myrtie and Howard Dean on August 27, 1938. She went to Clayton High School and was a lifelong Clayton resident.
She was a long-time employee of the Department of Prisons until her retirement in 2002.
Ila is survived by her niece, Gloria Godwin, great-nephew, Jason Colavito, great-nephew, Daniel Colavito and wife Shannon and two, great-great nieces, Taylor Colavito and Layla Colavito.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Durwood and sister-in-law, Mary Dean.

The family of Ila wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Kamineni of UNC Health, as well as Dr. Johnson and staff of Wake Medical Emergency Services.
Visitation will be at 2:00pm at McLaurin Funeral Home on September 29, 2018 with a graveside service at Maplewood Cemetery following immediately at 3:00 pm with the Reverend Billy Nowell officiating.
