Irene Jones Godwin

She was born and raised in Johnston County, less than a mile from Amelia Church. She joined Amelia at the age of eighteen, when she married her husband, Tom. Irene’s highlight in life was her family. She loved to cook, shop, and laugh with friends. Always enjoyed cleaning and decorating her home. She worked in the cafeteria in her younger years and retired to be a homemaker. When her health got the best of her, she still cherished visiting with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Godwin. She is survived by her sons: Randy Godwin and wife, Kay; and Chris Godwin and wife, Shelly; grandchildren, Jeromy Godwin (Sheila), Kacey Thompson (Neal), Adam Godwin (Sasha), Amanda Grondalski (Graham), Christopher Godwin (Sarah); and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15th at 10:00 am at Amelia Church with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amelia Christian Church Building Fund, 1696 Amelia Church Road, Clayton, NC 27520; or online at Amelia CC.
