A U.S Navy Sailor, AN-1 Irvin Levi Coleman (Sonny) died Sunday, January 26, 2020. He was 88 years old. Sonny graduated from Lafayette High school followed by Fugazzi Business College in Lexington, Kentucky, and Later attended Broward Community College in Florida. He served honorably in the United States Navy from August 28, 1951 to August 24, 1955 with duty at Barber Point Naval Air Station, Oahu, HI, aboard the USS Yorktown in the Philippines, Korea, Okinawa, Hong Kong, and Japan. Sonny was proud to be a member of the “Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)” and served as Commander of Post-1986 for a period of time. Sonny’s career was in sheet metal and he worked with Pratt & Whitney, Eastern Airlines, and as a contract worker for the U.S. Army (Lockheed-Martin). Sonny is survived by his wife and soulmate Frances Joann Coleman, 2-sisters, 8 nephews, 5 nieces, and their families from his bloodline; and, 7 brothers-in-law, 1 sister-in-law, 6 nephews, 5 nieces, and their families from Joann’s bloodline. Sonny was loved and close to both sides of the family and will be sorely missed by family, extended family, and his many close friends.
