

Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 9, 2026 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Garner, North Carolina with Pastor Carl Sexton and Pastor Ryan Guzouskis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 AM at the church, prior to the service.
James was born in Tuscola County, Michigan on January 31, 1937 to the late Harold L. Evans and the late Myrtle Dodge Evans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Sharon Evans; and 7 siblings.
Mr. Evans was a retired international Christian missionary with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). He attended language school in Costa Rica and served in church-planting ministries in Peru and Argentina, with his family, from 1964 until retirement in 2008. James was also a beloved professor at Word of Life Bible Institute in Argentina for many years.
Even after retirement, he stayed active in the mission field, returning to Argentina often and serving on many mission boards as well.
He always had a heart for spreading the Good News of the Gospel and leading and teaching the love, knowledge, and grace of Christ. He enjoyed traveling, reading, hosting many guests in his home in all the regions he lived, and cherished his time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Mautz, and spouse, James, of Erwin, North Carolina, and Brian Evans, and spouse, Kristen, of Clayton, North Carolina; grandchildren, Michael Kintner, Scott Kintner, Angel Evans, and Abigail Evans; and a great-grandchild, Elias Evans; along with many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
