Born on July 18, 1942, in Selma, North Carolina, James D. “Dan” Hocutt was the beloved son of J.C and Ella Mae Hocutt. Dan shared a long and loving marriage with his wife, Mildred Scott Hocutt. Together they built a life filled with love and laughter.
He was a cherished father to his daughter, Sharon Hocutt Fentem and son-in-law, Timothy Fentem. His role as grandfather brought him immense pride and joy, he adored his grandchildren, Shari Labian and her husband, Eric Labian, Alex Fentem, and Nick Fentem. His legacy continued to grow with the arrival of his great-grandchildren, Jonli Labian and Sarah Labian, who brought light into his later years.
Dan was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Eugene Hocutt, Billy Wayne Hocutt, and Roger Ray Hocutt and survived by his sisters, Betty Jo Crocker and Peggy Crocker.
A true fisherman and outdoorsman at heart, he was the happiest at the water’s edge, or at home working hard around his home and taking pride in his hard work. He taught us that life’s greatest rewards come from quiet focus, patience, a steady hand, and a little bit of fresh/salty air.
A gathering of family and friends honoring Dan’s life will be held at McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 Clayton Boulevard Clayton, North Carolina on Wednesday, January 14th, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The interment will be at the Pinecrest Memorial Park.
