A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday April 13th at Trinity United Church of Christ in Concord, North Carolina with Nathan King officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:45 pm at the church with the service to follow at 2 pm.
Jim was born in Alamance County, North Carolina on July 15, 1950 to Doris York Staunton Longest and the late, Wade Hampton Staunton, Jr. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother Tim Staunton.
Jim was a retired minister with the United Church of Christ and received his Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Seminary. He served churches in Henderson, Sanford, Lenoir, Thomasville, Lexington and Rockwell, North Carolina. Jim had a great sense of humor and brought light and laughter to every room. He enjoyed the mountains, singing in choirs, community theater, sharing music and being with his family most of all.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mary Barbara McDermott Staunton; daughters, Holland Mariah Staunton, Maya Christine Staunton, Tara Elizabeth Small and son-in-law, William Small; grandchildren, Sarah Beth and Alex; mother Doris Longest; and brother, Wade Hampton Staunton III.
