Jeffrey Alexander Johnson was born on February 24, 1988 and died on Sunday, February 2, 2020, just a few weeks before his 32nd birthday. Alex was a son, a brother, a grandson, an uncle, a friend, a cousin and a human being that battled an addiction. Heroin told him, “I can make you feel alright, I can make you feel worthy, I can make you feel normal, I can make you feel loved, I can make you feel nothing and I can make you feel like everything is okay." What it didn’t tell him was how it would devastate all those around him and tear him apart, or how it would destroy who he was and who he could be. Or how it would take and take and take, until it took his life. His heart was as big as his beard, and his smile and laugh would light up a room. There was no question where Alex’s heart was – he was real. For all that knew him, they will smile when they think of him. His jokes, his long stories, and his goofy dances were all part of who he was. He never met a stranger. He was smart beyond his years but didn’t realize his full potential. He could have been or done anything that he set his mind to. Losing Alex has broken our hearts and our lives will never be the same without him, but we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace with his struggle. Alex leaves behind his mom and stepdad, Joette and Daryl Crews, his dad, Jeff Johnson, his sisters Amanda Harris (husband David) and Lydia Johnson, his brothers Austin Crews, Gavin Crews and Lane Johnson, his grandparents, Patricia Dodd and Betty and Vernon Johnson, his niece, Andi Harris, his fiancee, Cheyenne Watts, his aunts and uncle, Tammy Dodd, April and Scotty Puckett, his cousins, Brandon Dodd and Lauren Gonzales (husband Joey). He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Dodd and his uncle, Christopher Dodd. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, February 5th at 3:00 pm in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 pm – 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to: Neighbor to Neighbor, 1200 S. Blount Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 or to an organization close to your heart. I'm so sorry to hear this. Alex went to school with my daughter Natasha Johnson & Eric Huffman was our next door neighbor so I used to see him a lot in his grade school years. I remember Alex for his beautiful eyes & eyelashes.

This is so heartbreaking. I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Alex 15 years ago. Alex and my daughter went to school together and we're good friends. I also worked with Alex at Food Lion. He was such a great, caring person. Would do anything for you. I always loved seeing him. Alex would give me a hug every time, no matter if it had been a couple days seeing each other. I was always ask his cousin Brandon how he was doing of I hadn't seen him for awhile. I was really saddened by his passing. He was a wonderful person with a great heart gone too soon. Will definitely miss seeing him and his hugs. Rest In Peace Alex.

Alex came into my life when Joette and I became friends. He was around 4 years old. Cute, sweet and so adorable. As he grew into a young man he really didn’t change. He was always smiling and willing to help in anyway he could. I’m sorry his life was cut so short because he had so much to give. He will be missed!
