Born in Glen Rogers, West Virginia, on October 9, 1943, Jerry was the cherished son of Virginia and Albert Snuffer, and one of fourteen siblings. After completing high school, he made the noble decision to enlist in the US Navy in 1961. Serving with honor until his discharge in 1964, Jerry dedicated his time as a diesel mechanic (E4) aboard the USS Glennon, embodying the values of service and commitment that defined him.
During his time in Newport, Rhode Island, fate led him to meet his future wife, Regina (Sullivan) Snuffer, of Tilton, New Hampshire. They settled in Abington, Massachusetts, where Jerry lived for over sixty years. His career spanned several industrial manufacturing companies, including Walworth and Kinney Vacuum/Tuthill, and he proudly held membership in the United Auto Workers Union until he retired.
Jerry's spirit thrived in the great outdoors. A passionate advocate for land conservation, he found joy in activities like kayaking, fishing, hunting, and camping. His love for archery shone brightly as he participated in regional and state competitions, showcasing both his skill and dedication.
The Standish Sportsman’s Association in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, held a special place in Jerry’s heart. As a lifetime member, he actively contributed to the Club’s growth from its early days. His commitment included volunteering his time and talents for building improvements and serving as President, on the Board of Directors, as well as participating in various committees and work parties. Jerry built lasting friendships at the Club, and he took immense pride in supporting youth organizations and programs, such as the Boy Scouts, Young Marines, and youth sporting events like fishing derbies and archery leagues. At the Club, he found solace and happiness, whether he was working on land improvements or simply enjoying a cup of coffee by the fireplace, chatting with friends.
In 2021, Jerry made the heartfelt decision to relocate to his daughter's home in North Carolina. There, he became a valued member of the American Legion Leonard Moore Post #71 in Clayton, where he enthusiastically engaged in various projects, including lawn maintenance and property improvement. His dedication was recognized when he was named Legionnaire of the Year for 2024. Additionally, Jerry volunteered his time at UNC Johnson Hospital, driving a golf cart to assist patients, always spreading kindness wherever he went.
With heavy hearts, we share that Jerry passed away after a brief decline in health, surrounded by the love of his family. He received compassionate care from Transitions Hospice Care of Raleigh, North Carolina, and peacefully left us in the early morning hours on Veterans Day, a day that held significant meaning for him.
Jerry is survived by his beloved son, Christopher Snuffer Sr. of Orlando, Florida, and his devoted daughter, Jennifer (Snuffer) LaFlamme of Clayton, North Carolina. He found immense pride and joy in his four grandsons and their families: Jonathan and Lisa Peluso of Henrico, Virginia; Joseph and Monica Peluso, along with their three beautiful daughters (Emily, Annabell, and Juliana) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Christopher Snuffer Jr., who is currently serving active duty in the US Navy; and his youngest grandson, Jerry (Jay) Snuffer of Clayton, North Carolina.
In honoring Jerry's memory, his family wishes to share that he will be laid to rest at sea with military honors at a future date. They invite everyone to celebrate his remarkable life on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the American Legion Leonard Moore Post #71 in Clayton, North Carolina, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to join in a heartfelt remembrance of Jerry and the legacy of love he leaves behind.
