Born on April 4, 1937, in Beacon, New York, he was a son to the late to Russell Laverne Adler and Lena Felicita Adler. John attended Beacon High School and Union College in NY. He served honorably in the National Guard and worked many years as a staff engineer and draftsman for IBM. He was a founding member of Toy Train Collectors of America and was an avid golfer winning many amateur tournaments. John was also a member of the Johnston County Car Club and took great pride in his Ford Edsel and 1954 Ford Convertible. He was often recognized driving his Ford Edsel around Clayton wearing his trademark Stetson hat.
A graveside service will be held for John on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 10:00am at Raleigh Memorial Park at 7501 Glenwood Avenue Raleigh, NC 27612.
John is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ada Robinson Adler; daughters, Janet Adler Blackwood and her husband Michael, and Wendy Adler French and her husband Steve; grandchildren, Joshua and Devin French.
