I remember seeing John at family gatherings with Dora and we talked about our current situations.  Aunt Kitty and Uncle Tony spoke highly about him. He will be missed.

I first met John and Dora when they moved into Portofino. At the time, I was both the listing agent and a fellow homeowner in the neighborhood. I introduced myself shortly after they arrived and offered to help with anything they might need, whether it was finding trusted contractors or getting settled in the community.

We quickly became close friends, bonding over shared meals and family gatherings. Dora and John are truly remarkable people—kind, thoughtful, and incredibly genuine. I often told John that he reminded me of my father, with his warmth, hospitality, and unforgettable smile.

Coming from an Italian background myself, we found common ground in many things—especially our love for food. My mother is an exceptional cook, just like Dora, which made our connection feel effortless and natural.

I knew many of their surrounding neighbors, and together we shared a welcoming dinner in their honor. I even invited my own family because I was always talking about how much John and Dora felt like family to me. I knew my loved ones would adore them just as much as I did—and they absolutely did.

A Note of Gratitude for Our Beloved Pop Pop

Pop Pop,
Thank you for the precious time we shared together. You were a truly wonderful man who made each of us feel so important, loved, and seen—every single day. Whether it was waking up early just to surprise us with our favorite donuts, buying us the toys we dreamed of, or warming towels and drying our hair to keep us cozy, you did it all without hesitation—quietly, lovingly, and with a heart full of care.

You gave us more than comfort and fun; you gave us lifelong memories. You taught us how to play cards—not just the rules, but the joy and the laughter that came with every game. We’ll carry those lessons forward. Every time we sit down to play, we’ll be thinking of you and using the tricks you taught us, smiling at how much you enjoyed beating us (and letting us win now and then).

We love you, Pop Pop. We miss you deeply. But we know you're in heaven now, smiling down on us. Until we meet again, we’ll keep your spirit alive in everything we do.

I will always remember you for your thoughtfulness and for the care you gave to every single thing. Whether that was just giving me an extra hug, an extra hint at where the golden egg was hidden, refining every bit of that cruise I wish we had gotten to take together, checking in on how school was going, and just making sure that each person you were with had everything they needed; you endlessly gave of yourself to others. The world without you in it is not a place I’ve yet gotten acquainted with, and I wish I didn’t have to. I miss your laugh, your special tricks to get the cards you needed when us four played together, and I miss you endlessly explaining things I knew nothing about until I became an expert. You truly did know everything about everything. I long for the drives to and from Florida, sitting in the back with Gabby while you and Grandma were up front. Even if we weren’t talking, I just felt such joy in those moments. When we would stop at the rest stops and Gabby and I took obnoxious amounts of magazines and pamphlets we had no need for, but you let us grab them all anyways because you loved to make us happy. When we would stay with you for a week and get specially driven around in the golf cart, given private tours of the whole community, those are the memories I cherish. You treated me like a princess, you made me feel loved and important, but you also taught me respect and the importance of caring for others over yourself. I miss you terribly, but I can’t be mad that you’re gone. You are in a beautiful place with the Lord, He called you home at the intended time, and I will see you again, I promise. I could keep reaching and reaching for you, but only when God lifts me up will I get to see my Pop Pop again. 
Thank you for giving me such a great dad, he is everything and more, and all the best of you and grandma. 
I’ll see you soon, until then I hope you enjoy the finest cruising where the water sways and the sun keeps you warm.

To the most wonderful, kind, loving, funny, talented, and supportive grandpa there ever was. 

I truly don't understand why you had to leave us so soon, but I trust that you are watching over us. I would much rather have you here though, so that we could play cards and you could sprinkle your 'magical luck' over the deck of cards so you got the card you wanted. Or another day where we come over for dinner and play tombola and you sat next to me just so I would have good luck. For some reason whenever you sat next me I would win and I like to think you were my good luck charm, and I pray that you continue to be just that. Grandma is the best chef but you were the best taste tester. Any time we would cook anything you had to 'test it out' just to make sure it was good. But far beyond any of these things you were the best person to talk to about anything. You were the best story teller and knew how to make us laugh. You always made me feel special and would go to great lengths to make me happy. The hole you are leaving in our lives is tremendous and the weight of your loss is so beyond heavy. Thank you for being the greatest pop-pop a girl could ask for. Thank you for being an amazing teacher. Thank you for making me laugh. Thank you taking the best care of grandma and through that you have shown me what an incredible husband looks like. 

I miss you so much, we all do. I love you, pop-pop.

How is it possible to thank someone for raising such an extraordinary man that became my best friend, my partner, the love of my life and the father of my children?  John Michael is the incredibly devoted and loving husband and father he is, because of the values you instilled in him and the example you were to him.  Your love for my girls, your grandchildren, surpasses anything I could have asked for them. I always knew Pop pop would do anything for them.  I am eternally grateful to be a wife to your son, a mom to your granddaughters, and a daughter in love to you and Mom.  I guess God needed you sooner, though selfishly I wish we could have had more time with you.  Rest easy Pop pop, your son is taking care of everything and I trust, would make you proud. I love you!

I have known John since I was 16.  He has always been a caring and loving man.  He loved my sister, Dora, more than anything.  He also loved his children and grandchildren and was very proud of all of them.
I was still in High School when my sister started dating John.  At times he even helped me with my homework.  I remember those days fondly.
When I started dating Lou, John already knew him since they both worked at Orbach’s.  John and Dora always made us welcome in their home.  We valued the time we spent together.  Through the years we have always been close.
When John and Dora moved to Florida, we were ecstatic, even though they were 2 hours away; we knew we would see each other more often. We went away together a few times and we always had a great time.  John was a great planner of trips, especially cruises.  
But what stands out the most is his love of  family, and above all his love and adoration for my sister Dora.
John you will be greatly missed!!!

In Loving Memory of John Anthony Kozlowski
 August 31, 1948 – May 15, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, John Kozlowski, who left us on May 15,2025, with his loving wife by his side.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on August 31, 1948, John grew up with a strong sense of resilience, humor, and compassion. He attended Baruch and received a business degree which he used to work as a purchasing agent.  He made his family home in Hicksville, Long Island, where he and his beloved spouse built a warm and loving household. Together, they formed an unbeatable force. They raised two children who carry forward his values of integrity, hard work, and kindness.
John was a dedicated provider who worked to support his family. Whether through long hours on the job or quiet moments of guidance at home, he gave selflessly to ensure his loved ones had everything they needed. He led by example, teaching the importance of perseverance, love, and doing the right thing.
To his grandchildren, he was not only a source of endless stories and laughter but also a steady presence of unconditional love. His eyes lit up with joy in their company, and the memories they made together will be treasured forever.
John will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his gentle spirit, and the quiet strength he carried through life. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know and love him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dora; his two children, John and Susan ; his grandchildren, Gabriela, Isabella, Alexandra, Jackson and Jace; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on May 20, 2025 at 12 noon, where family will gather to honor and remember the remarkable man he was.
He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

I have known John and his family for at least 35 years. I am truly heartbroken by his passing. He was a loving husband and father besides being a great friend. His presence will be missed tremendously. May he Rest in Peace.
