Joseph Bailey McAdams Jr.

JOSEPH BAILEY McADAMS, JR. January 15, 1926 – December 30, 2014 CLAYTON, NC – Joseph Bailey McAdams, Jr., 88, formerly of Clayton, NC passed away December 30, 2014 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Center, Jamestown, NC. He was born to Joseph Bailey McAdams and Berniece McAdams on January 15, 1926 in Estellene, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Whitley McAdams of Clayton, NC; his son, John Christopher McAdams of Clayton, NC; his sisters, Delores McAdams Barrier of Lubbock, TX and Beth McAdams Brown of Midland, TX. He is survived by his sisters, Billie Glen McAdams Sloan of Lubbock, TX and Carolyn McAdams Bratcher of Odessa, TX; his brother, Walter Samuel McAdams of Lake City, FL; his son, Joseph B. McAdams, III and his wife Janie of Clayton, NC; his daughter, Martha McAdams Dixon and her husband John of Jamestown, NC; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He attended Stanford University and the University of Nebraska while in Naval flight officer training. He was a Naval fighter pilot of 17 years, and later worked in private aviation. He was a Warrant Officer in the National Guard Aviation and also worked as a building contractor. He retired to Lake City, Florida after the death of his wife of 57 years. A memorial service will be held in the chapel McLaurin Funeral Home, 12830 US 70 Business Highway West, Clayton, NC at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Military graveside rites will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to either a Hospice of Johnston County or to a Hospice of Guilford County. Arrangements are with McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton, NC.
