

Mr. Joseph Luther “Pete” Rawls, 81, of Clayton passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was born March 21, 1935 in Bertie County son of the late Henry Rawls and Lessie Dempsey Rawls. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marion Auker and a son-in-law, Glenn Wooten.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 2, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. in the McLaurin Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Jason Hurt and Pastor Chris Casey officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret “Peggy” Rawls, four children, Shelia Wooten of Clayton, Tammy Deans and fiancée Dale Acton of Clayton, Lou Harrell and husband David of Garner and Dale Rawls and wife Annette of Clayton, two brothers, Gerald Rawls of Asheville and Larry Rawls and wife Pat of Aulander, three sisters, Shelba Kessinger and husband Bill of Bluffton, SC, Maxine Dunning of Mechanicsville, VA and Eileen Liverman and husband Jim of Aulander, nine grandchildren, Joey Wooten, Jennifer Wall, CJ Deans, Rachel Crocker, Richard Deans, Sgt. 1st Class Jeremy Sweet, Kelly Repka, Patrick Rawls and Hope Rawls, and fifteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 2nd from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. at McLaurin Funeral Home in Clayton.
